Best HVAC Companies in Reno, NV: How to Choose

A short way to sort Reno heating and air companies, followed by what the state license search showed for eight of them.

Reviewed November 5, 2026. Sources are listed at the end of the page.

Short answer

Choose a Reno HVAC company by checking three things before price: an active Nevada State Contractors Board license in C-21 or C-21b (not maintenance-only C-21d) for a full replacement, a permit pulled in the contractor's name, and a deposit no larger than $1,000 or 10% of the contract. All eight firms below showed an active C-21-family license on the NSCB search on 2026-11-05.

How to choose an HVAC company in Reno

  1. Match the license to the job. A full furnace, AC or heat pump replacement needs a C-21 or C-21b license; a C-21d maintenance license covers parts on existing systems only (NAC 624.380). Look it up by number or exact business name with the NSCB walkthrough.
  2. Get the permit in their name. Reno, Sparks and Washoe County all require one for an equipment replacement. See the permit guide for Reno's fees.
  3. Hold the price against published ranges. The AC cost report and furnace cost report show typical figures with their sources.
  4. Keep the deposit lawful. No more than $1,000 or 10% of a residential contract, whichever is less (NRS 624.970).
  5. Pay the licensed name. Several Reno firms trade under one name and are licensed under another. Write the check to the name on the license.

Eight Reno-area HVAC companies and their licenses

Alphabetical, not ranked. Each entry shows only what the Nevada State Contractors Board's public search listed on 2026-11-05: the licensed business name, license numbers and classes, status, and city of record. Nothing here rates quality, price or service.

Probable match, not confirmed: the brand is "Cool Breeze"; the active Reno licensee by that name is Cool Breeze Refrigeration Inc. An older license under the bare name "Cool Breeze" (0058549) shows Cancelled, Not Renewed. Ask which license number the work will be done under.

DeHart Plumbing Heating and Air

Licensed as
The Elevation Group Inc, doing business as DeHart Plumbing Heating and Air Inc
License(s)
0088575 · C-21 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning0088909 · C-1 Plumbing and Heating

License(s)
0079414 · C-21 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning0079415 · C-1D Plumbing

A Nevada license is statewide, so a Las Vegas city of record does not bar Reno work, but it differs from the Reno location you would call. The same LLC holds licenses under several other trade names; confirm the number on your contract.

FAQ

Questions about this list

Who is the best HVAC company in Reno?

This page does not rank them. It lists local firms that appear in Reno heating and air searches, with what the state license search showed for each on the date read. The best one for your job is the one that is licensed for it, quotes it in writing with the permit and a lawful deposit, and can schedule when you need it.

Are these companies paying to be listed?

No. Inclusion is not paid and is not an endorsement. Reno Heat & Air is an independent referral service and does not perform HVAC work.

Why no phone numbers or links?

So the page stays a neutral reference rather than an advertisement. Search the company by name, and check its license number yourself on the NSCB search before calling.

How often is this list checked?

The license data was read on 2026-11-05 and is re-checked at least every 90 days. A license can lapse at any time, so look it up the day you sign.

Want a licensed contractor who pulls the permit for you?

Describe the job once. An independent, NSCB-licensed Reno contractor follows up. No obligation.
